In an address outside Number 10 on Tuesday, Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries and Brexit Opportunities Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg announced they would be throwing their weight behind Foreign Minister Liz Truss in her leadership bid. Speaking during the double endorsement, Ms Dorries said Ms Truss was “probably a stronger Brexiteer than both of us”, signposting the Foreign Secretary as the Brexit vote. But this narrative is likely to run into problems with multiple other candidates – including Suella Braverman, Kemi Badenoch, Nadhim Zahawi and Penny Mordaunt – also touting themselves as the best candidates to fully deliver Brexit. A dirty dossier about Rishi Sunak was circulated amongst Tory MPs in an attempt to stop his “coronation”. The memo described him as a “schoolboy” and a “liar” but in their dogged attack, his rivals have effectively admitted that the 42-year-old is the undisputed frontrunner in the Tory leadership race. Camilla Tominey, Telegraph associate editor, warned: “If the Right cannot coalesce around one candidate – as they did with Boris Johnson in 2019 – Mr Sunak could end up becoming the next Prime Minister by default.”
