The man killed Thursday by Kiowa County sheriff’s deputies was a 36-year-old from Eads, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The man, who has not been named pending notification of next-of-kin, was a passenger in a pickup truck stopped at 3 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Colorado 96 and Main Street in Brandon, a CBI news release said.
The man tried to run away, the news release said.
“Following a struggle between the deputies and the passenger, shots were fired, striking the man,” the news release said.
Authorities have not said whether or not the 36-year-old was armed.
The two deputies were not injured. They have been placed on administrative leave.
The CBI, Prowers County Sheriff’s Office and 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
