‘Active shooter’ in supermarket as police scrambled to reports of gunfire

An ‘active shooter’ is on the loose at a supermarket, police say.

The gunman is said to be at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado in the US.

According to ABC News, police were called to a report of someone gunned down in the carpark.

When they arrived at the scene a suspect opened fire on them.

Police urged people to stay aware from the area as they dealt with the shooter.

Boulder Police Department tweeted: "ALERT: Active Shooter at the King Soopers on Table Mesa.

"AVOID THE AREA. PIO is en-route."

The shooting was reported around 2.30pm local time.

Dozens of police officers arrived in the area.

Footage from the scene shows armed police in the carpark entering the supermarket.

A livestream showed a fire truck lift what appeared to be armed officers into the air and onto the store roof.

The video also shows an armoured police vehicle in the area.

Local media reported a helicopter landed at a nearby high school.
