Brighton man arrested on drug charges after bomb squad is summoned

A man being evicted from a Brighton home was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of drug possession after neighbors were evacuated from their homes and a bomb squad was called to the scene.

At about 2 p.m., Brighton police officers responded to 61 S. 17th Ave. Drive on a request for assistance from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office during an eviction, according to a police news release. Deputies at the residence had found a suspected methamphetamine lab.

Detectives with the North Metro Drug Task Force and Brighton firefighters also responded and chemicals, not typically used to cook meth, were found. That’s when the sheriff’s office bomb squad was called in and neighbors were evacuated. The chemicals were determined to be non-explosive. Drugs were found inside the home along with illegal weapons, police said.

Chad Geschwell, 46, was arrested and booked into the Adams County Jail on suspicion of child abuse, possession of dangerous weapons, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance special offender, according to a news release.
