A dad has been jailed after murdering his own daughter following a furious confrontation over her drug-taking and "partying" lifestyle.
Petrit Lekaj from Adelaide, South Australia, stabbed Sabrina Lekaj, 20, eight times with a kitchen knife before trying to kill himself.
The Supreme Court in Adelaide heard on Wednesday Lekaj flew into a rage over his daughter's alleged partying and recreational drug-taking.
Defence counsel Ben Sale said his client got into his car with his daughter to get a takeaway, and that he planned to challenge her about her behaviour.
"There was a realisation that the daughter, who was the apple of his eye, had been lying to him, living another life with friends that involves the use of drugs," he said.
Lekaj had previously had his own run-ins with the law over drugs, Justice Trish Kelly said.
In 1994 he was jailed for dealing heroin, while he was also convicted and fined for possessing cannabis in 2007 and growing it in 2009.
The dad – who suffered from mental health issues – admitted taking a 15cm kitchen knife from the house before getting in the car.
But he insisted he only wanted to scare Sabrina.
Sale said Lekaj couldn't come to terms with what he had done following the shocking murder.
"However furious and enraged the prisoner was, he quickly came to his senses and tried to take his own life with five stab wounds to his chest and slash wounds to his wrist," he said.
Lekaj told a psychologist he "deserved to be in hell" for his crime, the court heard.
Prosecutor Melissa Wilkinson said Lekaj pulled the knife out and stabbed his daughter before trying to scare her.
"She screams and tries to get out of the vehicle, kicking the window and trying to escape her father," she said.
"He responds by physically restraining his daughter, gets out the car and sits behind her, further restraining her and stabbing her seven more times."
Wilkinson added: "He did not offer to save her or render aid and there was a telephone in the car and a hospital nearby."
A post-mortem report found Sabrina died from blood loss and strangulation.
Lekaj will be sentenced next week.
