Ex-Page 3 model opens up on transgender sister and says mum’s ‘mind was blown’

A former Page 3 model has opened up about her sibling's transition and how her kids accepted it.

Mum-of-four Peta Todd revealed how Faye, nine years her junior was known as the children's uncle but she thought her sibling was gay.

But after the pair had a heart to heart discussion the former model gained more understanding.

Peta, who is married to cyclist Mark Cavendish, revealed how it was difficult for Faye to discuss the issue of transitioning with their mum, according to the Sun.

Yet, speaking on Superdrug's Healthful Podcast she said her children took the change in their stride. She said: "Faye found it really difficult to speak to my mum who’s obviously in that generation.

"My mum’s side of the family all come from Missionaries, the super-religious side of the family.

"It blew her mind completely, and she really wanted to kind of understand everything.

"I would be quite open to say: 'Excuse my ignorance if I say something the wrong way but talk to me about this so I can know how to navigate and with the kids. They're not going to care.

"They love you regardless, but they've known you as your dead name and you want to be known as a different name."

She went on: "They're not going to be able to get that right every single time.' And they were like 'that's fine'. But [my son] Finnbar, who was 10 at the time was like 'cool, no problem'. It wasn’t a big deal.

"Delilah would comment that she really liked what Faye was wearing. They found their own way to this new relationship.

"I have really high hopes for our generations of children if it's spoken about more and represented more that they're no different to any person."

Peta also revealed how they had a discussion around sexuality before Faye's transition because she had a "sneaking suspicion" her sibling was gay.

She said: "To say that I knew they would want to transition is incorrect because I didn’t, but I would have probably had a sneaking suspicion that even though they always had girlfriends, maybe I thought they were gay.

"We couldn’t be more different in every possible way but we get on really well and we had a conversation and I was like 'Listen, do you only like girls?' and at the time they were like 'No, I’ve never had any relationship with a man but I’m open to not just girls'."

Peta met cyclist husband Mark in 2010 and the pair married in 2013. They have three children together – Delilah, eight, and sons Frey, four, and two-year-old Casper. Her 14-year-old son, Finnbar, is from a previous relationship.
