Famous director severely injured and assistants killed after set crane collapse

Famous Tamil director has been injured on the set of his latest film in and accident which has killed two assistant directors.

Multi-award winning filmmaker Shanmugham has been injured in the accident on the set of Indian 2, according to an Indian film journalist.

Shankar's assistant directors Madhu, 29 , and Krishna, 34, have both died, according to social media reports from an Indian journalist.

His credits include Gentleman, Nanban and the upcoming movie Indian 2, due for release in 2022.

In a tweet a source said Shankar has suffered a severe leg fracture in a crane accident.

Journalist Prashanth Rangaswamy wrote: "Shankar severely injured , his leg severely fractured. Two assistant directors of shankar sir are no more say sources.

"Awaiting more confirmation. Pic of the crane that fell!!"

In a further he continued: "Sad sad news coming in, Light setup on an 150 feet crane just fell and has killed more than 1 people say unit people. Many severely injured they also say. Sincere prayers !!

"Director @shankarshanmugh sir was so close to the lighting setup and it is a very close miss say unit people. The rope that held the super heavy light that was hanging 150 feet above the ground failed say unit people."

Prashanth added he believed the crane hit a blue tent on set where the directors were housed to monitor filming.

Shankar is a 56-year-old award-winning director, whose career began in the 90s, is one of the highest paid directors in India cinema, having created some of the highest grossing films in Indian film.

He is most famous for creating movies in the Tamil cinema genre and his filmography runs to 18 titles.

His 2018 blockbuster ‘2.0’ was the fourth most successful movie in Indian cinema. He was reportedly filming scenes for his new movie India 2 when an accident took place.
