Greeley mother threatens neighborhood children with axes, affidavit says

A 37-year-old mother accused of threatening four children with axes faces menacing and child abuse charges.

At 6:30 p.m. May 15, a Greeley police officer responded to a disturbance with weapons call in the 8200 block of 20th Street.

Upon arrival, the officer contacted 37-year-old Kristen Mcglothlen, holding a large ax in her hand. Mcglothlen indicated she was protecting her children from other kids in the neighborhood, according to arrest records.

A witness reported to the officer that he saw Mcglothlen holding two axes and threatening a group of four children. The officer confirmed the observer’s account after reviewing a video taken by the witness of the incident.

All four children told the officer that Mcglothlen approached them holding an ax, followed them closely and told them to leave her children alone “or else,” Mcglothlen’s affidavit said. Each child indicated feeling fearful of being injured by Mcglothlen.

Greeley police booked Mcglothlen into the Weld County Jail on suspicion of four counts of felony menacing. She also faces four counts of child abuse, according to online records.

Weld Judge Meghan Saleebey set the bond in this case to $1,000, which Mcglothlen posted on May 16, online records said.

Mcglothlen has a 9 a.m. advisement hearing Aug. 10.
