A huge migration of birds estimated to measure 180 miles across has been spotted travelling across Florida on a weather radar.
The video shows the massive flock flying north over Key West before disappearing from view.
They took off around midnight on Monday and are believed to have started their journey in Cuba.
The sighting is known as “roost rings” as thousands of birds take off from their roosting sites to forage for food in doughnut patterns.
Footage of the incredible phenomenon was shared by the National Weather Service Key West, who wrote: “Key West radar had a busy night, but not because of weather.

“The most impressive display of migratory birds so far this year occurred overnight.
“This product distinguishes between biological targets (birds) shown in green/yellow and meteorological targets (showers and rain) depicted in darker blues.
“The birds first appear on radar as they depart from Cuba and emerge in the Florida Straits, disappearing below the radar towards dawn as they reach mainland Florida.”

The circular shape of the flock is down to “martins departing their roosting sites in various directions”, according to the NWS’s website.
“As they travel farther from their roosting sites and reach higher altitudes in lower densities, the birds show up on radar as expanding, fading rings until they either fly above or below the radar beam and are no longer detected,” they added.
It is not the first time strange sights have been recorded on weather radars.
