Human remains discovered in barrel in horrific scene in residential street

The remains of a woman were found in a barrel that had been left on a residential street.

Police officers were called to the scene in New Jersey, USA, on Friday morning following reports of a strange barrel that someone had left in the street.

The barrel was ignored by bin men doing their rounds collecting rubbish as it wasn’t a standard container, the Mail Online reports.

A police officer later opened the barrel at around 10:30am and made a horrifying discovery, finding the remains of a woman had been concealed inside the container.

People who lived on the corner of Teaneck Road and Hobart Street said that they believed the container had been dropped off there overnight in the early hours of Friday morning.

Local news outlets report that an investigation is now underway to determine how the woman died.

The corpse of the woman was described by local outlet the Daily Voice as being “stuffed” into the barrel.

Officers inspected the green container, dusting it for fingerprints before it was placed into a large black van and removed from the scene just after 2:30pm.

The last known murder in the area was more than ten years ago in 2010.

A resident told CBS 2: “It's so scary to know that somebody just stuffed somebody in a barrel, like they are nothing.

“It's so scary. That's really brutal.

“I hope they caught whoever it was because I don't want to have to look over my shoulder. I want my kids to be able to play outside.”

Ridgefield Park is a town of around 13,000 people situated just across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

Since 1986 only six homicides have been recorded in the area according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Programme.

The investigation continues.
