Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have pet dog whose name has ‘rude’ meaning

When it comes to picking a name for a new pet, most of us think long and hard about it – especially if it's a dog.

Having to call your dog's name out in public in front of other people could be a disaster if you pick one that's silly or rude.

And it's not just us mere mortals who fall into the pitfall of picking the wrong name for our pooch – the royals are also guilty of it.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are back in the headlines again after new book Revenge was published, laying bare their ongoing feud with the Royal family.

But a previous biography on them revealed how the couple have done what many pet owners have and unwittingly given their beloved dog a rude name.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are both animal lovers and named their adopted black Labrador, Pula.

They reportedly chose the name because of its links to Botswana, a country which has a special romantic meaning for them.

But unfortunately for Meghan, 40, and Harry, 37, Pula is also a slang Romanian word for "penis".

The couple say they picked the name Pula because it's the currency of Botswana and also means "rain" in Setswana, the language spoken in the area.

Meghan and Harry spent a lot of time in Botswana during the early days of their courtship in 2016 and have fond memories of it.

Although the couple revealed they had adopted the black Labrador in 2018, they refused to disclose its name.

It was only when the book Finding Freedom was published in 2020 that their pet's name was finally revealed.

Unsurprisingly, the couple went on to be mocked on social media when it emerged.

One person tweeted: "Quite a shock to see it in print…!!!”

While another posted: "Surely someone in their group would have Googled Pula to ensure it wasn’t Romanian for penis?”

While other social media users also joked about the Royal couple calling their dog after the name for money.

Harry and Meghan are set to make millions from various deals they have struck in the US, including Netflix, Spotify and signing with a top public speaking agency.

One said on Twitter: “Always raining money with Sussex’s! Near and dear to their heart and lifestyle.”
