Ivanka, Donald Trump’s daughter, was spotted campaigning for her father in the key state of Florida, while Melania took a step back to focus on another issue. Melania, however, has spent time off the campaign trail and his instead focused on highlighting issues relating to drug addiction.

The First Lady travelled to New Hampsire – also referred to as a key state – to visit a hospital as part of Recovery Month.

She tweeted: “In honour of Recovery Month, I will visit New Hampshire today with ONDCP Director Carroll to highlight a local hospital’s treatment programme for babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).”

Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump embarked on part of a four-state tour of what are known as ‘battleground states’ in the US.

These are states where campaigning is crucial, because voters could be expected to vote either way depending on how they are persuaded in the run-up to an election.

The president’s daughter is not alone in campaigning for her father; Mr Trump’s other adult children Donald Jr, Eric and Lara all have scheduled campaign stops, according to the Daily Mail.

However, this does not appear to be the case for the First Lady, whose last campaign event was a speech during the Republican National Convention last month.

There has been speculation in recent weeks over the relationship between Melania Trump and her stepdaughter Ivanka.

It has been sparked by revelations made in a book by the First Lady’s former adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who was let go from her White House position in 2018 over controversies regarding the funding of the president’s inauguration event.

In one instance, Mrs Winston Wolkoff alleges the First Lady and herself once had a plan they referred to as “Operation Block Ivanka”, in which the two apparently sought to distance her from the 2017 inauguration event.

Elsewhere in the book, Mrs Winston Wolkoff claims Mrs Trump once sent her a text message in which she described Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner as “snakes”.

In any case, Ivanka Trump’s campaign visit the Florida involved a meeting with Pam Bondi, former Attorney General for Florida.

She also visited a bakery, where she was taught how to roll Cuban bread.

The US is due to go to the polls on November 3, when president Donald Trump will face off against his Democrat rival Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, Melania Trump said on her own visit: “September is National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate those who have embraced sobriety and the positive impact of a drug-free life.

“Today, I would like to highlight the people and programs that encourage and support the road to recovery for mothers and their innocent newborns.”

For safety reasons, the First Lady donned a white face mask during her visit.

Addiction has been a key focus for the wife of the current US president; she runs the ‘Be Best’ initiative, which aims to reduce substance abuse issues as well as promote healthy lifestyles for children more broadly.
