Police investigating attempted rape release CCTV in hunt for predator

A predator who tried to rape a woman in a late-night street attack is being hunted by cops who have released images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Police hope members of the public may be able to identify the man who they believe can help with crime enquiries.

An investigation is underway after the attempted rape in Teeside.

The man why want to speak to may have links to the Newcastle area and officers have asked the public to share the images to try and locate him.

A report was made of an attempted rape on Scarborough Street in Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, on Monday, August 24 at around 11.30pm.

The incident involved a 27-year-old female victim.

Cleveland Police have released the images of a man they wish to trace.

He was wearing dark clothing including a puffer-style jacket and a face mask.

A spokesperson for Cleveland police force said: "The images show a man described as being of Asian appearance and in his mid-20s. It is believed this person has links to the Newcastle area.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with information regarding the man shown in the CCTV images is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 138571."

The spokesperson went on: "If you have been a victim of rape or sexual abuse you can also contact Teesside Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for help and support, regardless of whether or not the offence has been reported to police."
