A misguided “incel” has revealed how he hits himself in the face with a hammer because it will believes it will improve his looks.
The man, interviewed by Ben Zand for Channel 4’s online documentary UNTOLD – The Secret World of Incels, claims to be an influential figure in the online “incel” community.
Incels, mainly young men who are “involuntarily celibate,” are a growing online community that use message boards and social media to express their anger and frustration that they can’t get a date.

One of the most extreme incel forums there are some 18,000 members sharing a mixture of dating tips and dangerously hostile attitudes to women.
Some 2,500 of them are believed to live here in the UK.
“If you look at a lot of mass murderers and serial killers, they were mostly lonely men who were outcast from society,” an incel nicknamed Tuna told Ben.
“I’ll be honest, I’ve entertained the idea of shooting a place up,” he added.
Another British incel influencer who spoke to Ben gave his name as D and said he was in his early twenties, unemployed, and lived with his parent.
He explained how he had come to accept “the genetic truth that he had been born an inferior person”.
A leading incel Instagram influencer told Ben about a bizarre practice called “looksmaxxing”.

He explained: “All the women in the world want the best looking men. If you understand the truth, you can then start to take actions to use it in your favour.
“It’s not uncommon for people in the looksmaxxing industry to get a hammer and you think, ‘Ok, what part of my face would I like to improve? My cheekbones, my jaw, my chin, my orbitals’…”
When Ben challenged the practice, the incel influencer insisted that it got results.
He said: “I wanted to be good looking, quickly, fast. It’s like walking down a street and you just see train-wreck after train-wreck after train-wreck because I know what good looking people look like…
“The best looking people in society, they’re always treated the best. You’ve just got to open your eyes and see it”.
Sex-deprived man's plot to 'slaughter' 3,000 female uni students was over 'jealousy'
Although he accepted that his views amounted to a type of body dysmorphia, the "looksmaxxing" influencer said that no-one would ever get to know a member of the opposite sex unless they first found them attractive.
D told Ben that – in common with many incels – he had never had a conversation with a woman, other than his mother, and had no friends beyond the people he talked to on incel forums.
At its most extreme, the incel movement finds expression in violent acts.
In 2021, Plymouth murderer Jake Davison killed five people and then himself in the UK's worst mass shooting for 10 years.
After posting an online outburst, in which he ranted he was a “f****** fat ugly virgin,” Davison killed five people, including a three-year-old toddler who was out on a walk with her dad.
