Teacher accused of ‘sleeping with pupil after prom’ seen working in Dubai

A PE teacher accused of having sex with a pupil who was struck from the teaching register has been pictured in Dubai.

Melissa Tweedie fled the UK after being sacked for allegedly getting into bed with an 18-year-old student in a Premier Inn after a school night out in Glasgow.

The 27-year-old, who was 23 at the time of the incident, denied having sex with her pupil and claimed in a hearing that her drink must have been spiked.

But in an attempt to put the scandal behind her, Tweedie has since set up a new life as a yoga instructor in wealthy Dubai.

The former teacher at Gleniffer High School in Paisley, Renfrewshire, has been pictured for the first time since a hearing conducted earlier this month banned her from the classroom for at least another two years.

A photographer in the United Arab Emirates city captured Tweedie in her bright yoga gear making her way to a hire bicycle after leading a class, according to MailOnline.

To complete the career change, Tweedie had to study in Dubai for more than 200 hours to qualify as a Vinyasa Flow and Hatha flow yoga instructor.

In June 2017 Tweedie's colleagues spotted her dancing "inappropriately" and downing shots with students as they partied at SWG3 nightclub in Glasgow before going back to a Premier Inn Hotel, it was heard at a hearing for the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) earlier this month.

The teacher claimed she grew suspicious of drug use among students and took it upon herself to check on them.

But Tweedie was reportedly found inside a hotel room with the 18-year-old by another pupil which she reportedly defended by saying: "Technically I haven't touched him yet."

It was also proven that she stated words to the effect of "Can we for a minute act like I'm not a teacher" to other pupil(s) and when alone on a bed with Pupil A.

Regulator (GTCS) decided to remove Melissa Tweedie from the teaching register following an investigation over her behaviour.

The 27-year-old was alleged to have slept with an S6 pupil after the leavers night but the GTCS did not find this allegation proven on the weight of evidence presented to the panel.

She denied sleeping with the teen and told the school's headteacher that she was at home when he phoned her from the hotel foyer trying to find her.

Miss Tweedie, now working as a yoga teacher in Dubai, also made claims that she only went to the hotel because she was concerned about pupils taking drugs and believes she may have been spiked.

Following a five-day hearing, the GTCS decided to issue Miss Tweedie with a removal order, stating that her conduct fell "significantly short of the standards" expected of a registered teacher.
