Retired British boxing champ Tony Bellew was targeted by trolls after sharing pictures from his brother's gay marriage on social media.

Bellew, 37, also wished his brother Liam congratulations on his special day.

Tweeting some photos from the event, Bellew wrote: "Congratulations to my little brother Liam on the marriage to his partner Steve! Wishing you both all the luck and happiness in the world!"

But the post was quickly targeted by trolls who threatened to boycott the ex-cruiserweight and heavyweight star, who recently starred in SAS Who Dares Wins.

One idiot tweeted: "God made Adam and Eve, not Liam and Steve!"

Another wrote: "Unfollowing in 3, 2, 1…"

While a fellow moron replied: "Disgusting. Should be ashamed."

But there was plenty of support too.

One of the pictures showed Tony and his wife Rachael Roberts wearing matching rainbow flag face masks at the event.

Many of the comments were positive, with former Brit champ Enzo Maccarinelli replying: "Congrats to both."

Another wrote: "Congratulations to you both. Wishing you a lifetime of love, luck and happiness."

While a third added: "Love this Tony. Family is everything."

As the thread turned nasty, some trolls reminded former champion boxer of comments made by his wife, who in 2018 was heard using an offensive anti-gay slur after her husband's fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Video of Tony Bellew's wife's homophobic rant was exclusively published by Daily Star Online.

One Twitter user tweeted at Bellew: "Gay brother, homophobic wife. Brilliant."

"Was the wife invited Tony?" another wrote.

But many hit back to defend the fighter from trolls.

One said: "Congrats to your brother, Tony.

"Don't respond to the degenerates on here. Likes and retweets are all they have. Sad really."

While a second wrote: "Who is bothered about his wife we are talking about his brother?"

Tony was also slammed for supposed "hypocrisy" after trolls highlighted that he had previously been pictured posing by an offensive flag.

The Everton supporter was snapped standing in front of the fan-made club flag mocking Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish with the slogan: "Kenny Dalglish is a homosexual."

But Bellew later came out to deny he was homophobic, after the picture had surfaced following his win over David Haye in an epic heavyweight clash at the O2 Arena.

"I had no idea that flag was there," he told the MirrorOnline.

"My younger brother is homosexual and he's getting married in the next six months – so I just want to put people straight on that."

In an interview earlier this year with the BBC, Bellew hit out at social media, describing it as "a load of rubbish where people show you the highlight reel of their life".
