Police have arrested two men on suspicion of stabbing to death a footballer in a nightclub on Boxing Day.

The suspects, aged 21 and 22 have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Cody Fisher, 23, at The Crane in Birmingham, West Midlands Police said.

Girlfriend, Jess Chatwin said the 23-yer-old was her "whole world" and said she "didn't know how she was going to do life without him" after he was stabbed on the dancefloor of a Birmingham nightclub on Monday night (December 26).

Jess wrote online: "My poor baby. I'm so sorry this has happened to you.

"My whole world, the love of my life, my best friend has been taken away from me."

Police were called to The Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham, just before 11.45pm on Boxing Day, to reports that a man had been stabbed.

Authorities say Cody was "approached by a group of people" before being knifed on the dancefloor.

It is understood the DJ stopped playing and a warning message was flashed up on large screens around the club.

The victim was sadly pronounced dead around 30 minutes after the police were called despite efforts by medical staff to save his life.

Now police are calling on the public to come forward with any information that may help their inquiry.

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a young man enjoying himself with friends on a Boxing Day night out and our thoughts are with his friends and family.
