Leader of the Ukrainian Voice party, Kira Rudyk, spoke to Express.co.uk about the Russian threats on the Ukrainian border and delivered a warning to European allies about what would happen if there was no intervention. Mr Rudyk explained the conflict was “not far away” and praised the US for getting involved as she feared what would happen if they did not. She added international security would also be completely changed following the end of the Ukraine tensions – regardless of the outcome – before warning the EU that Ukraine was a “shield” against Putin.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ms Rudyk discussed the situation on the border and warned the UK Government and other European partners that Russian aggression would not end with them.

She explained: “Even though in Europe, we all think inside Europe, the geopolitical situation includes also China, Taiwan, Kazakhstan…

“All the other points of Russia’s expansion where they are playing their cards and are using Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia as just cards in their play.

“So I think no matter how these negotiations end, and I really hope that they would end on de-escalation.

“The idea of world security and the way how the world’s security is built for the so-called ‘United West’ will have been changed and renegotiated.

“Because the way it’s happening right now is like, imagine that the US would not take part in this negotiation?

“What would happen then, so I think this is one of the questions and one of the question marks for the EU for the UK and for the European countries that think that it’s very far away, it is not.”

Ms Rudyk was then asked what she fears would happen if no intervention from the West happened.

She explained: “So, we totally understand that the only way to move forward is for us to continue this [negotiation] path.

“Here we are expecting from again, all the partners and NATO countries and EU countries and the United States.

“We are expecting that there will be support on helping on this path because if Ukraine fails Putin will be able to complete his plan.

“We see it right now and Ukraine and I think Georgia are two countries right now where this fight still continues.

“Last, for the EU countries Ukraine right now is a democratic shield, imagine what would happen if we fail?

“I don’t want to think about it but that would mean that European countries will have the aggressor at their border.

“And we know how it is and I would generally tell you that this is not a pleasant situation.”

The US had claimed Russia will use a “false-flag” operation to justify an invasion of Ukraine.

Military officials suggested Russia would create a graphic video showing a Ukrainian attack on Russian territory, which Russia denied.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Ukraine this week to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to show UK support against Russian aggression.

Mr Johnson was asked if the situation was overblown and said: “I’ve just got to say, that is not the intelligence that we’re seeing.

“This is a clear and present danger. We see large numbers of troops massing, we see preparations for all kinds of operations that are consistent with an imminent military campaign.”

Mr Johnson added economic sanctions had been drawn up to react to the “first toe cap” that crossed the Ukraine border.
