University Hill Elementary evacuated due to Boulder police activity

Boulder’s University Hill Elementary was evacuated due to police dealing with a barricaded person nearby.

Boulder Valley School District tweeted that it put the school, 956 16th St., on lockout before deciding to evacuate the students at the BVSD Education Center, 6500 E. Arapahoe Road.

The school district tweeted that reunification is underway and parents and guardians can go to the education center to pick up their students at this time.

Boulder police have also evacuated several University of Colorado Boulder sorority and fraternity houses in the area. Evacuated students are asked to go to the University Memorial Center, 1669 Euclid Ave.

According to an email, police are dealing with a barricaded suspect, and Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh confirmed that police are trying to make contact with a wanted person in the 900 block of Broadway.

Police have asked residents to avoid the area.

No further information about the wanted person was released.
