Westfield Shopping Centre evacuated as 999 services rush to ‘suspicious package’

Police have been called to Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush after shoppers noticed a 'suspicious package'.

Pictures emerging from the scene show police storming the shopping centre as panicked customers evacuate.

Police, fire services and sniffer dogs were reportedly at the scene.

One shopper wrote on Twitter: "As if it’s our last day and police have stormed Westfield so we had to evacuate.

"The whole middle part was taped off on our lunch break and loads of police came so we’re all outside."

Another said: "Police, fire brigade, police dog section, ambulances onsite. Site evacuated. No idea what is happening."

A third said: "A third said: "Not sure what has happened – but now allowed in @westfieldlondon."

Another witness claimed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal is attending the scene.

It appears that the services have now started to leave the area.

Amy Ní Riada, a journalist for Irish broadcaster wrote on Twitter: "Police confirm a suspicious package was found in Westfield London.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal involved in investigation. All clear now."

One photo taken by a shopper shows an evacuated crowd standing outside the centre.

A row of police vans can be seen pulled up outside the shopping centre in another photo as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Westfield London is situated in White City, west London, England.

It was developed at a whopping £1.6b on a brownfield site which used to be home to the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition.

A Police spokesman told The Daily Star that a suspicious item was discovered and upon examination was deemed not to be suspicious.

The incident has now been cleared.
